After a long wait, Euphoria is preparing to return with season 3. The HBO series created by Sam Levinson, which has become one of the most discussed television phenomena of recent years, will resume the story of Rue Bennett and the other characters after the events of the second season.

Since its debut in 2019, the drama has captivated audiences and critics thanks to an immediately recognizable visual style and the cast's performances, including Zendaya's role as the protagonist Rue. The series addresses complex themes related to adolescence and identity formation, amidst addictions and personal traumas.

The third season marks a new narrative chapter for the characters and also introduces a significant change in how the story is told.

The plot of Euphoria 3: what is it about?

The second season finale leaves several open elements in the lives of the protagonists.

How does Euphoria 2 end?

Rue goes through an extremely difficult phase related to her addiction and faces a painful detoxification process, trying to rebuild relationships with some of the people in her life, including her sponsor Ali.

Meanwhile, the chaos generated by the play written by Lexi strains several relationships between the characters. During the show, Cassie reacts angrily to the portrayal of her own life and publicly confronts her sister, while Maddy decides to confront her directly after discovering Cassie and Nate's relationship.

The finale also shows an important turning point in Nate Jacobs' story, as he decides to report his father Cal to the police. In parallel, the story related to drug trafficking culminates in a violent clash with the police that leads to Ashtray's death and Fezco's arrest.

What is season 3 about?

The third season introduces a five-year time jump that takes the characters out of the high school setting that characterized the first two seasons. The intent is to follow their lives after adolescence and observe how they have changed.

The story resumes with Rue in Mexico, still facing the consequences of the debt she incurred with the drug dealer Laurie. The character thus continues to move within a context marked by crime and the consequences of past choices.

Other characters embark on very different paths. Cassie lives in the suburbs with Nate, and their relationship evolves into marriage. Jules attends art school and faces the uncertainties related to her future as an artist. Maddy, on the other hand, works in Hollywood at a talent agency, while Lexi becomes an assistant to a television showrunner.

Sam Levinson has described this new phase of the series as a noir-infused narrative and explained that the season will explore the theme of what it means to maintain moral principles in a corrupt world.

The cast of Euphoria 3

Among the protagonists returning in the third season are Zendaya (who plays Michelle "MJ" Jones-Watson in the MCU and Chani in Dune) as Rue Bennett, Hunter Schafer (Kinds of Kindness, The Hunger Games – The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes) as Jules Vaughn, Jacob Elordi (Wuthering Heights, Frankenstein, Saltburn, The Kissing Booth) as Nate Jacobs, Sydney Sweeney (The White Lotus, The Handmaid's Tale, Once Upon a Time in... Hollywood) as Cassie Howard, Alexa Demie as Maddy Perez, and Maude Apatow as Lexi Howard. Colman Domingo also returns as Ali.

Martha Kelly and Chloe Cherry, who were already in the previous season, are now permanent members of the main cast for the new season.

Alongside the familiar characters, the third season introduces numerous new performers. Announced new entries include Rosalía, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Toby Wallace, Marshawn Lynch, Natasha Lyonne, Danielle Deadwyler, Eli Roth, and Sam Trammell, as well as other performers involved in guest star roles.

Not all characters from previous seasons will return. Barbie Ferreira, who played Kat Hernandez, announced in 2022 that she would not be participating in the new season. Storm Reid, who played Gia Bennett, also stated that she is not involved in the third season.

The death of actor Angus Cloud in 2023 also left the narrative future of Fezco's character uncertain.
