Zodiac, the New Marvel Series: What the Espionage Thriller Could Be About
The Marvel thriller will arrive on Disney+ in 2028. The Zodiac logo and comic book references open up several hypotheses about the plot and a possible return of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Marvel has announced Zodiac, a new international espionage series coming to Disney+ in 2028. The plot is still unknown, but the title and logo presented at New York Comic Con contain some clues. References to the comics suggest that the story could revolve around the secret organizations of the MCU, although official information is scarce for now.

Zodiac: What the Marvel Series' Plot Could Be
Brad Winderbaum, head of Marvel Television, described the series as an international thriller in which betrayals will play a central role. He also spoke of acts of loyalty performed in secret, suggesting that trust between characters could be one of the main themes.
The story could therefore follow agents belonging to different organizations, forced to collaborate despite having conflicting goals. The information each hides from the others could fuel conflicts and influence their decisions. This is, of course, a hypothesis based on Winderbaum's words, as Marvel has not yet released an official synopsis.
The executive also anticipated that the story will unfold in several countries, without specifying where the events will take place or in what period the series will be set.
Zodiac in Marvel Comics: The Cartel and the Great Wheel
In Marvel comics, Zodiac is a criminal organization that first appeared in The Avengers #72, published in January 1970. The original group consists of twelve members, each associated with a zodiac sign. Its founder is Cornelius van Lunt, known as Taurus.
Among the members is Scorpio, a.k.a. Jake Fury, brother of Nick Fury. This very connection could allow the series to tie into the events of S.H.I.E.L.D., although there are currently no elements confirming the character's presence.
Another possible source of inspiration is the Great Wheel, a secret organization introduced in Jonathan Hickman's comics. It includes characters linked to the world of intelligence, including Nick Fury, and figures close to Hydra.
This second interpretation of Zodiac seems particularly compatible with the thriller announced by Marvel. The series could tell a story of infiltration and betrayal where adversaries operate within the same organizations as the protagonists. The screenwriters could, however, choose to only incorporate certain aspects of the original stories.
Could the Zodiac Logo Announce the Return of S.H.I.E.L.D.?
One of the most interesting clues comes from the logo shown at New York Comic Con. The letter A seems to recall the S.H.I.E.L.D. eagle, while the O, depicted as a divided circle, has been linked to the Great Wheel. Winderbaum confirmed that the logo contains references to Marvel comics, without explaining what they are.

These details have fueled speculation about a possible return of S.H.I.E.L.D. and some characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Even Clark Gregg, who played Phil Coulson, inadvertently contributed to the speculation by sharing the series announcement on social media. His gesture, however, does not confirm a possible return to the role.
Zodiac is also a name that has already appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the 2013 short film Agent Carter, it refers to a biological weapon recovered by Peggy Carter. It is not excluded that the new production could revisit this element, although there is currently no confirmed connection between the two projects.
Zodiac, between London and MI6: Which Characters Could We See?
According to an unconfirmed report, the production is looking for three British protagonists created specifically for the series. Marvel has not confirmed the news and, for now, has not announced any cast members.
A possible connection to the United Kingdom could favor the return of Sonya Falsworth, an MI6 agent played by Olivia Colman in Secret Invasion. The character would allow for a continuation of some of the espionage events already addressed in the miniseries, but for now, her involvement remains a simple hypothesis.
Filming for Zodiac is scheduled to take place in London in spring 2027, while its debut on Disney+ is set for 2028, after the release of Avengers: Secret Wars. The plot and the identity of the protagonists remain secret.
