What is Netflix?

Founded in 1997, Netflix is an American company. Initially, it started as a DVD rental company: users could order discs online and receive them directly at home. Since 2008, the on-demand streaming service has become its main business.

Today, Netflix is one of the largest streaming platforms in the world, with 282.7 million paying subscribers in over 190 countries. After subscribing to a monthly plan, users can watch movies, TV series, documentaries, cartoons, and much more. To use the service, you need:

Netflix, the new subscription prices - 2026

To watch all available content, users must subscribe to a monthly plan. The subscription renews automatically, but users can cancel it at any time. Starting October 18, 2024, monthly costs to access various streaming plans will increase, affecting both new users and existing subscribers. This means that, to continue enjoying Netflix's rich catalog of movies and TV series, a higher expense will be necessary for almost all available plans.

Below are all the available plans.

Standard with ads (6.99 euros per month): all content available on Netflix (excluding a few movies and TV series) with ads, watch on 2 supported devices at a time, Full HD quality;
Standard (13.99 euros per month): all content available on Netflix, watch on 2 supported devices at a time, Full HD quality, download on 2 supported devices at a time, possibility to add an extra user who does not live with you;
Premium (19.99 euros per month): all content available on Netflix, watch on 4 supported devices at a time, Ultra HD quality, download on 6 supported devices at a time, possibility to add 2 extra users who do not live with you, Netflix spatial audio (which offers improved audio even without surround sound speakers or a home theater system).

Standard and Premium users can add an extra user for 3.99 euros/month with ads or 4.99 euros/month without ads.

How to subscribe to Netflix

Let's find out, then, how to subscribe to Netflix.

Are you using a computer? Then, first of all, connect to the official website (by clicking here) and enter your email address in the appropriate field. Then, create a secure password.

Choose one of the available plans: "Standard with ads", "Basic", "Standard" or "Premium". Press "Continue". Complete the payment using one of the available methods (credit card, debit card, PayPal, or gift code).

Smartphone and tablet

To use Netflix on a smartphone or tablet, we recommend downloading the official app. Open Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iOS). Use the search field to find "Netflix" and press "Install"/"Get".

Then open the app and press "Start". Enter your email address, create a password, and follow the simple guided procedure.

How to share your Netflix account

Only people who live with you (in the same household) can use your account. To share your subscription with other viewers, you will have to pay a "small" extra, which is 3.99/4.99 euros per person/month. To purchase an extra slot, you must follow this guide:

Connect to Netflix using your computer;
Log in;
Click on your profile picture (at the top);
Press "Account";
In the "Extra users" section, tap "Buy an extra user slot";
Press "Activate extra user".

By proceeding, you will pay the new recurring fee until you cancel or remove the extra user.
