Fallout 5 on the Horizon? Todd Howard's Allusions
There's more cooking in Bethesda's cauldron

The Fallout saga celebrated Fallout Day on October 23rd, the day when, according to the lore, the nuclear apocalypse that devastated the planet took place, leaving only survivors inside the Vaults. During the event, several announcements were made, from the Anniversary Edition of Fallout 4, to the 15th Anniversary Bundle of New Vegas, and all the news for Fallout Shelter and Fallout 76: Burning Springs: we covered all of this in our report.
Apparently, however, no new installment in the series was announced, and this actually surprised no one: after the release of Starfield in 2023 - which we Reviewed - Bethesda should indeed have entered full development of The Elder Scrolls VI, announced as early as 2018. The overwhelming success of the TV Series on Amazon Prime Video has, however, greatly increased the demand from old and new fans for new chapters of the post-atomic saga.
Fallout: Todd Howard's Allusions to the Future
From this perspective, Todd Howard's statements, the head of Bethesda, right at the beginning of the announcement video released for Fallout Day, give us hope. Although he didn't make any explicit promises, Howard said:
"Even though this video of mine is recorded - it's not live - and I'm probably watching myself from my desk right now, I can read the chat and... the thing you want and the other things you want... hey, I read it all! We can't wait for the day when we can share it with everyone."
Howard thus plays the seer and, without much difficulty, guesses what the chat was loudly asking for at that moment, namely Fallout 5 and the remakes of Fallout 1 and 2. His words suggest that the SW - and Microsoft above it - are absolutely aware of this desire from fans [and it would be strange if they weren't...] and hint that there's something in the cauldron.
Of course, given the recent success of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered - of which we remind you of our Review - it's plausible that the Remakes of the first two chapters are more likely to arrive soon than a brand new Fallout, but Howard's words seem to be giving the classic "a nod and a wink". This would also contradict the rumors that Howard is about to retire after TES VI: could there still be room for Fallout 5 in his future?
As always, we just have to wait for official announcements...
