Xbox has made the difficult decision to significantly reduce investments and workforce, and it's intuitive that this choice will impact the development of future projects. Thousands of layoffs have affected studios within Microsoft's gaming division, which now find themselves grappling with a sudden lack of qualified personnel: this situation can only have a negative impact.

The Elder Scrolls 6 is Further Away

According to a report by IGN, Bethesda Softworks was forced to let go of over 50 professionals, who worked in various artistic fields: these were key figures, some of whom played a crucial role in the creation of Skyrim. According to some staff members (who understandably remained anonymous), the development of The Elder Scrolls 6 will suffer both in terms of timing, as it is now destined to be further delayed, and from a quality perspective, as experienced artists may be replaced by contract workers.

Obsidian Returns to Fallout

Obsidian Entertainment survived the Xbox earthquake, but did not emerge unscathed: according to Bloomberg (which in turn cites anonymous sources), the studio reportedly lost about a quarter of its members and was forced to cancel several projects in the pipeline, including a sequel to Avowed. The workforce was then reportedly diverted to a new Fallout game, at Microsoft's behest. We recall that Obsidian previously worked on the franchise back in 2010, when they developed Fallout: New Vegas.
