Xbox Towards Another Price Increase?

An insider issues a warning

Xbox Towards Another Price Increase?

Historically, the price of consoles is something that is set at the launch of a new model and then tends to decrease in subsequent years, or remain more or less stable with the launch of a new version... unfortunately, what has happened since 2020 has totally contradicted this historical trend.

Both PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, in fact, have seen their price tags repeatedly adjusted upwards over the last 5 years, and while it's true that there's still a chance to save a few bucks by taking advantage of bundles and various offers - such as the Black Friday from Sony and Microsoft - the trend seems to continue to be the same.

The reasons have been manifold: first the COVID-19 Pandemic with all its implications, more or less in parallel the semiconductor crisis, then new wars and the Trump administration's tariffs. The latest blow for consumers, according to insider Moore’s Law Is Dead, is the rise in DRAM component prices, especially from AMD, which supplies console manufacturers. According to MLID, Microsoft would be the first affected, with the price of Xbox Series X/S poised to increase again very soon.

"They haven't planned anything in advance - the insider states - If for some reason you still want an Xbox at current prices, know that they might increase soon or that supplies might dwindle soon because several of my sources have apparently been warned by Microsoft that this is what's about to hit Xbox Series consoles very, very soon."

Xbox Series X in the USA has gone from $450 at the beginning of 2025 - it was priced at $500 at its 2020 launch - to $600 and is now at $650, which paradoxically is the same price at which Sony sells PS5 Pro with Black Friday discounts. Xbox Series S has similarly gone from $300 to $380 and is now at $400.

For now, these are obviously just Rumors, of course, but forewarned is forearmed...
