The third expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has not yet been officially confirmed: CD Projekt Red has not said a word about it, and so, at least formally, its existence is not yet recognized. However, considering all the confirmations that have come from Poland, it is now an open secret, and we will not feign surprise when the official announcement is made.

The Setting of The Witcher 3 DLC

The existence of the expansion has been easily established, but regarding the relevant details, that's another story entirely: secrecy still surrounds what Geralt will be up to. However, some indications have leaked: last month, it was rumored that the setting for the new adventure could be Zerrikania, a desert region quite distant from those known to players, both geographically and in terms of design.

This hypothesis has been questioned by Wccftech, which cites yet another "well-informed" Polish source, according to whom the DLC location would not be so far away, but rather in the vicinity of areas already visited by Geralt, such as Velen or the Northern territories. A setting closer to familiar ones would have an undisputed advantage: the ability to more easily re-employ ready-made assets from The Witcher 3.

Considering that the majority of CD Projekt Red members are currently focused on the fourth chapter of the saga, it would make perfect sense for the expansion to follow a path of softer development, with a location that requires less production effort. With the aim of optimizing work, one could even suppose that the area of the future DLC might be reused in The Witcher IV... We shall see.
