Sicario 3 Changes Skin, But Reunites with Emily Blunt
A heavy-hitter name on the screenplay, curators of Locke and Eastern Promises

Emily Blunt will return to play Kate Macer in Sicario 3, reuniting the character with Matt Graver and Alejandro Gillick, once again portrayed by Josh Brolin and Benicio del Toro. However, the project also marks a significant change behind the scenes: Taylor Sheridan, author of the first two chapters, will not be writing the screenplay for the third film.
Padraic McKinley has been entrusted with directing, while the script will be written by Steven Knight. Black Label Media and Thunder Road will produce the new chapter of the saga, which has been the subject of rumors for years. McKinley comes to the project with extensive experience in editing, gained in productions such as Dexter, The Shield, and American Gods, but a still limited filmography as a director: Sicario 3 will in fact be only his second feature film. Knight, on the other hand, is a much more well-known name: creator of Peaky Blinders, he has written films such as Dirty Pretty Things, Eastern Promises, and Locke, in addition to currently being involved in the screenplay for the next James Bond film(!).
Kate Macer Returns After the First Chapter
Kate Macer was left out of Sicario 2: Soldado, while the story followed Graver and Alejandro, who risked his life heavily at the hands of a cartel and a very young sicario. The new film therefore brings the character played by Blunt back to the center, leaving a question open: what happened to Kate after the events of the first chapter and what position will she now occupy in this world?
Her return could therefore bring back to the forefront the moral conflict that characterized the saga's debut. The ending left Kate facing an extreme choice: kill Alejandro or stop before definitively crossing that line.
With the screenplay entrusted to Knight, Sicario 3 will now have to find a new balance without Sheridan, but will once again be able to count on the three historical main protagonists. Hoping that the talented Jeffrey Donovan, a lawman also present in the sequel, will also return to the cast.
