First, there was only a book revolving around the reflection on the relationship between citizens' rights and duties. Then came a provocative, splatter-filled film that mocked totalitarian regimes. Today, we find it adapted into a quantity of video games: these are the thousand lives of the Starship Troopers franchise, born from the novel by American writer Robert Heinlein and becoming a myth of popular culture after its big-screen adaptation by Paul Verhoeven.

This science fiction icon will receive another video game adaptation: publisher Dotemu and developer Auroch Digital announce Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War!, a first-person shooter with a retro look, which harks back to the film to the point that in the announcement trailer we find none other than actor Casper Van Dien, in the role of protagonist Johnny Rico. Having become a general, Rico accompanies the player in a new campaign against the Arachnids, who have expanded throughout the galaxy.

Where and When Ultimate Bug War! Will Be Released
Van Dien/Rico will appear in a series of cutscenes within the game. If you also want to do your part and enlist in the space infantry to eradicate the Arachnid threat, you will have to wait until early 2026, when Starship Troopers: Ultimate Bug War! will burst onto PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, via Steam.
