Highguard Updates and Pushes Raids
After radio silence, Wildlight Games returns to the fray

Highguard, the free-to-play shooter developed by Wildlight Games – a team that includes veterans who previously worked on titles like Titanfall and Apex Legends – seemed to have reached the end of its rapid trajectory after last week's layoffs and website shutdown. Apparently, however, that's not the case yet.
In a surprise move, the developers have released a new Patch, the notes for which are available on the game's Steam page. The update introduces new elements designed to make the game experience even more condensed, fast, and frantic, and more focused on the Raid, which is the part of the match where players actively assault the enemy stronghold.

The new package includes a new map, titled Cloudspire, which is smaller than previous ones. Among the criticisms leveled at the game at its launch were the facts that the maps were too large, especially for a 3v3 experience – the introduction of 5v5 had already mitigated this problem – and that the loot and farming mechanics in the first part of the match were not entirely convincing. From this perspective, Cloudspire looks very encouraging.
A new tool also arrives: the Lockpick, useful for picking doors remotely to allow allies to break into bases with the benefit of surprise. New mounts also arrive, evidently modeled after the Owlbear from Dungeons & Dragons. Finally, new character aesthetics are also included.

Wildlight Games has also promised further updates soon, possibly as early as next week. One wonders what remains of the originally shown roadmap: it's possible that this will be revised shortly.
The only certainty is that the team – at least what's left of it – seems seriously intent on keeping its game alive, a game that was probably released too early and without adequate testing, but which still has potential on paper.
