We've known about Highguard for less than two months, but we must admit that this competitive shooter has generated a lot of buzz. As you may recall, Highguard surprisingly secured the final announcement slot at The Game Awards, a disruptive way to introduce itself, which was then followed by weeks of questionable silence. The launch, on January 26, did not go as smoothly as hoped, but the situation is evolving very quickly.

Highguard Tests 5v5

The most frequent criticism leveled at Highguard is that the maps are far too large and sprawling for a 3v3 title, which has led to the suspicion that it was originally an experience conceived for 5v5. This suspicion was strengthened after Wildlight Entertainment's unexpected move: a 5v5 raid mode is currently being tested! A variant of this magnitude certainly couldn't have been put together in just a few days after launch…

In 5v5 raids, teams have 10 lives instead of 6, and respawns take a bit longer. Wildlight warns that Highguard is still in the optimization phase, and having 10 combatants on the map simultaneously instead of 6 can negatively impact performance. There's another new feature for the game: a new base, Soul Well, which is introduced in the trailer we're sharing below.
