The market for ultrawide monitors (21:9) has grown significantly in recent years: more and more enthusiasts are looking for a display that is not just larger, but capable of offering immersion, vertical and horizontal space, and superior visual rendering compared to typical 16:9, especially in gaming. With the UltraGear 34G600A-B, LG offers a 34" model designed to satisfy both video game enthusiasts and those who need multitasking management, video editing, productivity, and certainly not least, a more engaging viewing experience for high-level video content.

In this sense, this monitor has interesting elements to offer: starting with the WQHD resolution (3440 x 1440 pixels) and the 1800R curved VA panel.

The objective of this review is to analyze various aspects — from design to ergonomics, from screen quality to in-game performance — and understand the intrinsic qualities of this monitor.

LG UltraGear 34G600 - Design and Construction

The design of the UltraGear 34G600A-B is sober and minimalist, yet designed for gamers: thin bezels on 3x sides, a compact adjustable base (height, tilt, swivel), and a relatively slim profile compared to many curved VA monitors. In this regard, the 1800R value confirms the design aimed at offering a panoramic and immersive experience without being “exaggerated”: not the type of curvature that distorts images or imposes a rigid posture, but enough to give that feeling of an “envelopingscreen particularly appreciated in games and when watching movies, TV series, and concerts.

On the back, we have a structure that is largely plastic, a detail that might disappoint those who expected premium materials. However, this does not affect the overall robustness: the stand is narrow but stable, height adjustment is fluid, and wall mounting via VESA 100 x 100 mm standard is supported for more flexible setups. Overall, a form that is a good compromise between modern aesthetics and daily practicality; not so suitable for those seeking top-tier materials, but the quality/price ratio remains interesting.

LG UltraGear 34G600 - Ergonomics and Connectivity

The base offers full adjustments: height adjustable by approximately 110 mm, tilt from –5° to +15°, lateral swivel +/-30°. The anti-glare finish of the panel helps mitigate environmental disturbances, improving comfort even with a lot of light in the room: it doesn't solve everything but at least gives the possibility to grasp elements even in the background without effort.

In terms of connectivity, there are 1x DisplayPort 1.4, 2x HDMI 2.0, and a 3.5 mm audio jack output. This is a good setup for connecting a gaming PC, a console, or other multimedia devices. To fully utilize 160 Hz at 3440 x 1440 pixel resolution, DisplayPort is the solution, while via HDMI, it does not go beyond 85 Hz.

LG UltraGear 34G600 & WQHD — The rendering is there, but in REC.709/sRGB

The Vertical Alignment panel offers a declared static contrast of approximately 4000:1, much higher than many IPS or TN panels in the same range. This rendering translates into deep blacks, good gradients in dark scenes, and excellent overall performance for movies, games, and HDR content. With 3440 x 1440 resolution on 34″, the pixel density is balanced at 110 per inch: high enough to offer sharp text and details, without making the interface too small. The extended aspect ratio provides a very wide visual window compared to 16:9. In the latter case, instead of a stretched and surreal image, it can be left in its original form: the monitor's software helps to expand the experience anyway, filling the side areas by replicating the primary colors of what is displayed.

Slightly above 100% in the REC.709 color space, but it doesn't go beyond

HDR-10 support, combined with sRGB coverage, maintains above-average rendering, despite a panel that is still only 8-bit, thus limited in managing color gradients, which stop at just over 16 million. The declared brightness is 300 cd/m², sufficient for most not-too-bright environments; however, in very bright rooms or with strong direct light, it might be barely sufficient. Of course, the VA panel may have some limitations: horizontal and vertical viewing angles are good (178°/178°), but compared to an IPS, image quality degrades at high angles.

LG UltraGear 34G600 - Gaming Performance

The technical features that make a difference in gaming for this monitor are the refresh rate, which via DP goes up to 160 Hz, a response time of 5 ms, and compatibility with AMD FreeSync Premium / VRR. To this, add other specific functions like Dynamic Action Sync, Black Stabilizer, and Crosshair, which add real value for gamers in terms of overall image rendering, even during transitions with dark or intense scenes.

This combination of elements is necessary for a fluid visual experience without tearing, stuttering, or ghosting — exactly what is needed in competitive or dynamic games. Even with graphically intense and open-world titles, such as Cyberpunk 2077 or Alan Wake 2, the monitor performs well if the GPU is up to the task, thanks to the high refresh rate and HDR support.

The 21:9 format provides a huge advantage in terms of immersion: games with native support for this format show wider panoramas, with a greater field of view and significantly superior scenic rendering. This translates into a broader spatial perception and a more cinematic visual experience. The opposite issue arises when choosing to dive into a game not optimized for 21:9: in these cases, the image ends up “stretched,” may have black bars on the sides, or require forced configurations (with top/bottom cropping).

LG UltraGear 34G600 - When the game gets challenging

During the test, we tried the monitor with graphically demanding titles like Battlefield 6, Alan Wake 2, and Cyberpunk 2077, using good-level desktop gaming hardware (NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060), and the overall result was equally positive.

Fluidity and responsiveness: the 160 Hz + 5 ms refresh rate makes a difference in dynamic scenes, rapid camera changes, and intense combat. There is no perceptible ghosting or noticeable stuttering. Visual immersion: in Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2, the curvature and wide field of view add further dimensionality. Colors stand out even laterally, and the atmospheres are rendered with greater impact thanks to convincing images, leaving one to only imagine a certainly superior rendering with a native 10-bit panel and greater colorimetric coverage beyond the REC.709/sRGB color space.

Details and sharpness: the UWQHD resolution on 34" remains a good compromise between detail and performance: graphics appear clean, with a good balance between sharpness and fluidity. Practicality for post-game multitasking: after long gaming sessions, switching to the browser, video editing, or other activities is practical: the monitor's horizontal space facilitates managing multiple windows.

Integrated Audio

The monitor integrates 2x 5 Watt stereo speakers (Waves MaxxAudio suite), sufficient to offer acceptable audio without needing external speakers. Of course, one cannot expect the quality of a dedicated soundbar, but for dialogue in movies, YouTube videos, and streaming, the audio is decent: slightly above average for monitors with integrated speakers. For demanding users who consider such a setup only suitable for quick monitoring, the advice is to integrate a soundbar + subwoofer to increase visual hype and enjoyment.

Conclusions

The 34G600A-B is a monitor that has revealed more than good versatility of use: ready for gaming, creative work, editing, multitasking, and multimedia viewing. The 21:9 format and 3440 x 1440 pixel resolution contribute to a “panoramicinvolvement, with a high degree of immersion, especially for projects dedicated to this aspect ratio. This is made possible by the 1800R curved VA panel, with high contrast, immersion, and intense visual rendering. 160 Hz refresh rate (via DP) + 5 ms GtG + FreeSync Premium: a trio to be highly considered (net of compatibility with one's GPU) for fluidity and responsiveness in fast and modern games.

The typical limitations of a VA panel remain, moreover, it is not native 10-bit, whose nature almost 100% prevents the risks ofburn-in” even in case of hours and hours of use with RPGs with fixed GUIs that would otherwise put OLED panels at risk. Game compatibility is inevitable to deal with, and certainly depends on hardware suitable to exploit the potential of such a screen. Ultimately, an interesting balance between price and performance for a mid-to-high-end monitor: a reasonable and durable purchase, especially when paired with an adequate PC. Current price around €300.
