The Mummy 4: Fraser and Weisz Return in 2028
A talented pair of directors ready to invent the future without disowning the past

After months of speculation, Hollywood Reporter confirms: according to the outlet, Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz will reprise their roles as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell in The Mummy 4, with a theatrical release set for May 19, 2028.
Directing will be Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the duo known as Radio Silence, already behind Scream and Abigail. The screenplay is penned by David Coggeshall (The Family Plan, Orphan: First Kill), while Sean Daniel will return as producer. Plot details remain under wraps, but the directors have described the project as “epic, scary, and fun,” hinting at a return to the adventurous and emotionally rich spirit of the originals.
New Adventure and Some Nostalgic Memories

The relaunch clearly banks on the nostalgia of the first two films directed by Stephen Sommers, major box office successes in the late '90s and early 2000s. Any other excellent returns remain to be clarified: there's talk of possible involvement from Dwayne Johnson as the Scorpion King and Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay, but there are no official confirmations at the moment.
Hypotheses about the story suggest a return to Egyptian atmospheres and an ancient threat linked to supernatural forces or otherworldly dimensions, with the more mature O’Connell couple called upon to face a new global danger. For Universal, this is a decisive attempt to relaunch one of the most beloved adventurous franchises of the 2000s, which had slipped into oblivion after the film with Tom Cruise. Hopefully with a less gerontophilic outcome than the last Indy film.
