Noah Hawley's next project moves away from the more “controlled” territories of science fiction and heads straight for explicit horror. After Fargo and Alien: Earth, the director has chosen to revisit Aterrados (literally Terrified), a 2017 Argentine film directed by Demián Rugna that has become a small genre cult over time.

The operation will not be a simple updated copy. The idea is to build a new version that maintains the original's sense of unease and brutality, avoiding the classic “cleaned-up” transformation typical of many US productions. A reassuring element is the direct involvement of Rugna, who will participate in the project's development.

A Reinterpretation Aiming for the Essence of Terror

Aterrados stood out for its radical approach: no waiting, no slow builds, but an immediate escalation of inexplicable events in an ordinary neighborhood. The result was a physical, almost aggressive horror, capable of striking the viewer without warning.

More than replicating individual scenes, Hawley seems interested in this very aspect. The goal is evidently to capture that disturbing feeling of reality cracking, where the supernatural invades the everyday without apparent logic.

It remains to be seen when the project will take concrete form, considering the director's commitment to Alien: Earth. What is certain is that if the balance between respect and reinterpretation works, this new version could bring back to the forefront a type of horror that is increasingly rare today.
