Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is almost at the starting line: with just over a week until launch, SEGA is revving its engines with a new TV spot... and it's instantly '90s.

Yes, because echoing the advertising style of that era, the blue hedgehog's team throws down the gauntlet to the mustachioed plumber's eternal rival; the spot makes open references - appropriately obscured - to the Mario Kart series, stating: "We all know THAT kart game. It's cool, but how about coming to race at our level? Leave the open world behind!" referring to any potential delays or slowdowns associated with it, and Mario Kart is shown hitched to the back of a beat-up camper, even being overtaken by a turtle.

Obviously, this is a playful representation, and SEGA certainly wouldn't allow itself such behavior if the rivalry with Nintendo hadn't long since faded into a peaceful and cheerful collaboration [remember when Mario and Sonic participated in the Olympics together? Good times...]: this is attested by the fact that the game actually enjoys a week of early access specifically on Nintendo Switch for purchasers of the Digital Deluxe edition.

For everyone else - PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S - Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will hit shelves on September 25th.
