Treasure Island Returns, Not Just to TV
The television production focuses on a story that needs no introduction
Robert Louis Stevenson's pirates are preparing for new boarding actions. Treasure Island will return to television with an MGM+ miniseries, while on the cinematic front, Ridley Scott is working on his own version of the same adventure.
The series will debut in the United States on October 11, 2026 with 6 episodes. The main cast includes David Oyelowo, cast as Long John Silver, Tom Sweet as Jim Hawkins, and Hayley Atwell as Bess Hawkins, the young protagonist's mother.
Two Treasure Islands on the Same Course
The television production thus focuses on a story that needs no introduction: a boy, a map, and a journey to a treasure capable of transforming an apparently normal expedition into a fight for survival. Oyelowo, however, will have the most delicate task, that of giving a new interpretation to Long John Silver, a character who over the decades has become almost synonymous with a cinematic pirate.
The most curious coincidence concerns the big screen. Ridley Scott is in fact preparing a film with Hugh Jackman as Long John Silver, thus creating another version of the same character destined to compete for public attention in relatively close proximity.
Robert Murphy developed the series, directed by Jeremy Lovering, Paul Walker, and William McGregor.
