Somewhere Out There - The New Sci-Fi Film for Shawn Levy

After getting his hands on one of the most delicate projects in the Star Wars universe, Shawn Levy is already looking ahead. Busy with Star Wars: Starfighter, scheduled for 2027, the Canadian director is reportedly ready to direct a new original feature film for Netflix titled Somewhere Out There.

The film will be based on a screenplay by Max Taxe and will see Levy also involved as a producer through his production company 21 Laps. The story centers on a man devastated by the loss of his wife who, in a desperate attempt to find meaning in his pain, sends a message into space and receives an unexpected response.

A more intimate than spectacular science fiction

Early reports describe the project as a combination of emotion and science fiction, with echoes of works like Arrival and even The Adam Project, another title directed by Levy for Netflix. Not just a simple cosmic adventure, then, but a story built primarily on human relationships and the weight of loss, an underlying idea that might remind fans of John Carpenter's Starman.
