EXODUS: preview of Archetype Entertainment's new sci-fi RPG coming in 2027
Vast gameplay, narrative choices with real weight, and a space universe that aims to rival the great RPGs of history

Among the most interesting and promising titles currently in development, EXODUS continues to carve out an increasingly important space in the attention of RPG and sci-fi enthusiasts. During a recent event dedicated to the specialized press, we at Gamesurf had the opportunity to watch a long gameplay video that showed numerous aspects of the production, allowing us to get a much more concrete idea of what awaits us in 2027.
Behind the project is Archetype Entertainment, a studio formed by industry veterans who have worked on sagas that helped define the modern RPG genre. Since its announcement, EXODUS has attracted attention for its evident ambitions: a rich and complex narrative universe, a strong emphasis on player choices, and gameplay that seems to want to combine exploration, combat, and character growth in an extremely articulated formula.
The general impression is that we are facing a project that does not simply aim to replicate already seen formulas, but seeks to build its own identity through a deep narrative and a particularly fascinating sci-fi context.

Graphics and art direction: EXODUS already convinces, but facial animations need refinement
From a technical and artistic point of view, EXODUS has already shown itself capable of delivering truly impressive glimpses.
The environments seen in the footage immediately convey the sense of vastness and mystery that should characterize a true space adventure. Alien planets, futuristic structures, technologically advanced bases, and landscapes light-years away from any earthly reference contribute to building an extremely credible and engaging imaginary.
The work done on the lighting is particularly convincing, capable of enhancing both interior and exterior scenarios. The general level of detail also appears very high, with a remarkable quantity of elements on screen and an artistic direction that seems to aim more at personality than at simple technical display.

That said, being still far from release, some aspects show rather obvious room for improvement.
Facial animations probably represent the element that left us with the most perplexity. During dialogues, some characters still appear slightly rigid in their expressions, with a mimicry that does not always manage to convey the emotional intensity of the situations described. Nothing particularly worrying considering the state of the work, but it is certainly one of the aspects that we hope will be further refined in the coming months.
Some secondary animations and transitions between various actions also still show that "work in progress" feeling typical of productions that still have a lot of time before publication.
Overall, however, the visual impact remains extremely positive and suggests truly remarkable technical potential.

EXODUS gameplay: futuristic weapons, custom builds, and a deep progression system
If there's one aspect that particularly struck us during the presentation, it's undoubtedly the gameplay.
EXODUS seems to want to offer considerable freedom of approach, providing the player with a vast arsenal and a surprising number of options to customize their combat style.
During the video, we witnessed the use of numerous types of futuristic weapons, each characterized by specific peculiarities and an apparently different feel. From energy rifles to heavy weapons, passing through more technological equipment and specialized tools, every choice seems to concretely influence the way missions are approached.

The progression system also appears particularly interesting.
The developers showed a structure rich in upgrades, abilities, and modifications that will be unlocked during the adventure. The player will be able to develop their character by following different paths, specializing in certain areas and building an increasingly personal configuration as the story progresses.
Equipment also seems to play a central role, with numerous improvements applicable to weapons and tools used during exploration. The battles seen in the footage alternated between more thoughtful moments and decidedly more spectacular ones, suggesting a variety that could keep engagement high throughout the adventure. The impression is that of a deep system, capable of rewarding experimentation and offering the player multiple possibilities of approach.
Narrative and choices: EXODUS focuses on a sci-fi story with real consequences and complex characters
If the gameplay is convincing, it is the narrative component that could represent the true strength of the entire production.
EXODUS seems to want to build a story in which every decision has tangible consequences on the game world and on relationships with the various characters encountered during the journey.
One of the most fascinating elements shown in the video concerns precisely the concept of narrative consequence. The choices made by the player do not seem limited to modifying some dialogue or a secondary scene, but promise to influence future events, missions, and relationships in a significant way.
The narrative addresses themes typical of great science fiction: survival, exploration, sacrifice, responsibility, and the weight of individual decisions within a context much larger than the single protagonist.
Without going into details to avoid possible spoilers, what was shown suggests an articulated and layered plot, capable of keeping the player's curiosity high for dozens of hours.
The characters also seem to benefit from particularly careful writing, with characterizations that hint at nuances and conflicts destined to play an important role during the adventure.

EXODUS: preview of Archetype Entertainment's new sci-fi RPG coming in 2027
After attending this presentation, the impressions are decidedly positive. EXODUS has shown itself to be an ambitious project, capable of combining an apparently very solid narrative, rich gameplay possibilities, and a fascinating and personality-filled sci-fi universe.
There is still room for improvement in some technical aspects, particularly in facial expressions and some animations, but considering that the release is scheduled for 2027, there is plenty of time to refine these details.
From what was seen in this preview, the potential is enormous and the foundations seem truly promising. We can only wait for the coming months to discover how the project will evolve, with the hope that Archetype Entertainment will manage to transform these excellent premises into a great game at launch.
We at Gamesurf will continue to follow the project with great attention and look forward to discovering what the next updates will bring for what, even now, is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing games on the horizon.
