Ninja Scroll Returns in 4K, Trailer Celebrates the Great Classic
The aim is to enhance the original material without altering its visual style

Over thirty years after its debut, Ninja Scroll is preparing to return to the spotlight with a new 4K restored version. Sentai and HIDIVE have released the trailer dedicated to the restoration of the celebrated feature film directed by Yoshiaki Kawajiri, confirming a work designed to enhance the original material without altering its visual style.
Produced by Studio Madhouse and first distributed in 1993, the film is considered one of the titles that helped introduce Japanese animation to Western audiences. The new edition promises greater image definition, more faithful colors, and a recovery of details, while maintaining the traditional aesthetic of hand-drawn animation.
A Cult Japanese Animation Ready to Be Reborn
The return of Ninja Scroll also coincides with an important international recognition: the film has been included in the Berlinale Classics section, becoming the first anime selected in this program. A milestone that confirms the historical value of the work and the role it continues to play within the global animation landscape.
Interest surrounding the restoration remains high, with numerous screenings that have been sold out, demonstrating how the charm of ronin Jubei Kibagami's journey continues to captivate both long-time fans and a new generation of viewers. It would be great if event screenings were also organized in Italy.
