Manhunter Returns in 4K: The Final Cut for its 40th Anniversary
From Thomas Harris's novel Red Dragon, the first Hannibal Lecktor on the big screen

Forty years after its release, the thriller Manhunter is set to return in a new form. The cult classic directed by Michael Mann will be re-released as a Final Cut, featuring a revised and corrected edit, accompanied by an equally important 4K restoration, carried out under the supervision of the director himself and unfortunately destined for US cinemas from July 24. In the UK, the release is set for September 25, while the Home Video edition will arrive by the end of the year.
Based on Thomas Harris's novel Red Dragon, the film follows FBI profiler Will Graham (William L. Petersen), called back into service to hunt down the serial killer known as the "Tooth Fairy." To tackle the case, he is forced to confront the dangerous Hannibal Lecktor once again, sublimely portrayed by Brian Cox, in the first cinematic appearance of the famous character later made iconic by Anthony Hopkins.
Michael Mann Supervises New Restoration
The new master was obtained from a 4K scan of the original 35mm negative, supplemented by some sequences from an interpositive. The digital restoration was carried out at the L'immagine Ritrovata laboratory in Bologna, while the HDR and SDR color correction was handled by Stefan Sonnenfeld together with Mann himself. The audio component has also been completely re-elaborated, with a new 5.1 mix derived from the original magnetic materials.
According to StudioCanal, this version will offer the best possible experience for the film, enhancing its cinematography and sound.
