Mortal Kombat II - The Trailer Crowns Johnny Cage
The choice seems to realign the film with the spirit of the historical video games

The new trailer for Mortal Kombat II changes the hierarchy and puts Johnny Cage in the spotlight. The new images released in these hours show a protagonist far from his past glory, called by Raiden to defend Earthrealm but still a prisoner of his own vanity and rusty talent.
Portrayed by Karl Urban, Cage seems to be the emotional and spectacular core of the story, while Cole Young (Lewis Tan) slips into the background. The choice seems to realign the film with the spirit of the historical video games, where the over-the-top charisma of the Hollywood fighter was an integral part of the saga's identity.

The images anticipate more brutal combat, explicit Fatalities, and a bolder visual rendition of Outworld, with Shao Kahn ready to establish himself as the ultimate threat. The aesthetic approach appears more faithful to the original material, with martial choreographies that emphasize physicality.
Simon McQuoid (Mortal Kombat, 2021) returns to direct, while the screenplay is penned by Jeremy Slater (whose credits include Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire but also the terrible 2015 reboot Fantastic 4). Warner Bros. Pictures will distribute the film in Italian cinemas, including IMAX, starting next May 8, 2026, a sign of great confidence in a chapter that aims to win over both historical fans and those who had lukewarmly received the good 2021 reboot.
