Marvel: Sean Gunn Says No More Rocket, What Happens Now?
The actor explained the reasons that led him to the decision to stop.
Sean Gunn no longer feels up to physically portraying Rocket Raccoon on Marvel sets. The actor, who for years has helped build the character's movements during filming, explained that the work has taken a toll, especially on his feet and ankles. This personal choice obviously does not equate to a farewell for the famous member of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Speaking on the Brandon Davis Show, Gunn said he decided to stop after turning fifty. He clarified that his knees are not the problem, but he no longer feels able to handle that particular physical commitment.
Rocket's Future Remains Open
The distinction is important: Bradley Cooper will continue to be the voice of Rocket, while Marvel might entrust another performer with the on-set reference work. At the moment, Gunn stated that he has not been contacted for a possible return.
In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Rocket became the leader of a new team, leaving open the possibility of further appearances. However, there are no confirmations of his presence in Avengers: Doomsday or Secret Wars. Gunn also plays Kraglin in the MCU, so at the moment his statements concern the physical work on Rocket, not a complete departure from Marvel.
