Marc-Alexis Côté Sues Ubisoft for One Million
The lawsuit from the former Assassin's Creed boss

Marc-Alexis Côté is fighting back: the developer, who was with Ubisoft until last year, is no longer part of the French-American-Canadian company after a dismissal that raised many questions and will now end up in the Quebec court.
Long story short: last October, Ubisoft announced that Côté had voluntarily left the company, despite Assassin's Creed Shadow, a game for which he served as Executive Producer, being close to release after several delays. A week later, Côté himself revealed that he had absolutely not made that decision himself: he had been removed following the franchise's transfer into the hands of the new Vantage Studio team, led by Christophe Derennes and Charlie Guillemot (son of CEO Yves). Côté was reportedly offered a subordinate position to Guillemot, which would have also required his relocation to France, hence his refusal, which the company then spun as a "choice to leave."

Now, the Radio Canada website reports that Côté has filed a lawsuit against Ubisoft with the Quebec Superior Court, seeking compensation for moral damages amounting to 1.3 Million Canadian Dollars – which, at the current exchange rate, is approximately $935,000 or, if you prefer, just over €800,000. For now, the dispute is just beginning: the accusations have been formalized, and Ubisoft's lawyers are awaiting their reply; it is not out of the question that the two parties may reach some kind of agreement [read: settlement].
Marc-Alexis Côté was with Ubisoft for over 20 years and began collaborating on the Assassin's Creed series in 2010, working on the third title, Brotherhood. Since 2022, he has been the promoter and architect of what was supposed to be a kind of "rebirth" for the franchise. His latest title, as mentioned, is Assassin's Creed Shadow, available on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2: we naturally have the Review of the game.
