Farewell to Sam Neill, Jurassic Park star: he was 78
A career spanning over 50 years, delivering memorable performances

The world of cinema mourns Sam Neill, who passed away in Sydney at the age of 78. The actor's family announced his death, explaining that it occurred suddenly. The message released on social media also noted that Neill had successfully beaten the blood cancer diagnosed in 2023.
Born in Omagh, Northern Ireland, and raised in New Zealand, Neill built a career spanning over five decades, working with some of the most important international directors. His breakthrough to a wider audience came in 1993 with Jurassic Park, where he played the paleontologist Alan Grant, a character he would reprise in subsequent installments of the saga.
From the success of Jurassic Park to his most memorable roles

His filmography, however, extends far beyond the franchise created by Steven Spielberg. Among his most acclaimed performances are Possession, The Piano by Jane Campion, The Hunt for Red October, In the Mouth of Madness, Event Horizon, and The Final Conflict, the third episode of the Omen saga, in which he played Damien Thorn.
In 2023, he publicly spoke about his battle against non-Hodgkin lymphoma. After CAR-T therapy, he announced a few months ago that the disease was in remission. His family confirmed that the actor was cancer-free at the time of his passing.
With the death of Sam Neill, one of the most versatile actors of his generation is gone, capable of alternating between major Hollywood productions and art-house cinema without ever losing his artistic identity.
