Dragon Quest XI Has Surpassed 9 Million Units Sold
It's the best-selling installment in the series

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is the latest installment in the glorious saga that began on NES in 1985: initially released on PS4 and Nintendo 3DS in 2017, Square Enix's JRPG was later re-released on Nintendo Switch in 2019 in the Definitive Edition, which was then also distributed on PC, Xbox One, and again on PS4.
Perhaps due to this "fragmented" distribution, an otherwise interesting piece of data went somewhat unnoticed, appearing in the official press release announcing the Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Demo – which we tried HERE. The data indicates that Dragon Quest XI recently surpassed the milestone of 9 million copies distributed, including physical and digital, thus becoming the best-selling installment in the Dragon Quest brand.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, for which we naturally have a Review, follows the classic JRPG tropes of which Dragon Quest is arguably a progenitor, casting the player as the Luminary: a mythical hero who must lead a group of adventurers against the forces of evil. The game [we'll give you a small SPOILER about the ending that absolutely does not affect the plot or the gameplay experience] is actually a Prequel to the entire saga. With its traditional structure, modern graphics that remain faithful to the original art style by Akira Toriyama, and a plot developed across multiple timelines, the game has managed to win over both audiences and critics.
The next installment in the saga slated for release, as already mentioned regarding the Demo, is Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, expected on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 1 and 2 on February 5th: we discussed it in our Preview.
