Call of Duty - Searching for the Film's Protagonist
The contemporary setting aims to replicate the impact of the Modern Warfare series

Paramount Pictures seems ready to significantly accelerate the cinematic project dedicated to Call of Duty, and the latest behind-the-scenes movements indicate that the film could become one of next year's most ambitious titles. The involvement of Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Tulsa King, Special Ops: Lioness) as screenwriter and Peter Berg (Battleship, Lone Survivor, Hancock) as director is no small detail: these are figures accustomed to working with large budgets and fast-paced challenges.
Sources close to the production suggest that the film will adopt a contemporary setting, a choice that aims to replicate the impact of the Modern Warfare series, currently at the peak of its popularity. No historical revisionism, nor futuristic incursions: the goal is to capture the immediacy of modern combat and transfer it to the big screen.
Mark Wahlberg would be a guarantee

And this is where the casting question emerges. Peter Berg might once again draw from his group of trusted actors and, according to some rumors, the name he is most carefully considering is Mark Wahlberg. The actor has already shared a long series of action projects with Berg and would have the ideal profile for a film built on rhythm and physicality. However, there are other options, from John Malkovich to Taylor Kitsch, also familiar faces to the director.
Paramount and Activision promise a high-level production approach, internally compared to the care given to Top Gun: Maverick. If these intentions are confirmed, Call of Duty could become one of the most spectacular video game adaptations ever.
