Call of Duty Chooses Modern Warfare for the Big Screen
Behind the camera, the director of blockbuster films like Lone Survivor, Battleship, and Deepwater Horizon

The cinematic adaptation of Call of Duty finally has a fixed point: the story will be set in the Modern Warfare universe, the sub-series that more than any other has contributed to the success of the Activision franchise. The announcement came during New York's Fanatics Fest, where director Peter Berg confirmed the project's setting.

It's a choice that comes as no surprise. Since its 2007 debut, Modern Warfare redefined the franchise's identity, shifting the action to contemporary scenarios and introducing iconic characters like Captain Price, 'Soap' MacTavish, and Simon 'Ghost' Riley.
A Symbolic Chapter of the Series Comes to Cinema

The theatrical release is scheduled for June 30, 2028, a date that coincides with the video game saga's twenty-fifth anniversary. Taylor Sheridan, writer of productions like Yellowstone, Lioness, and Landman, is also working on the screenplay, while Berg brings experience gained from action films such as Lone Survivor, Battleship, and Deepwater Horizon.
However, the most important question remains open: will the feature film follow the events of the video games or will it use Modern Warfare only as a narrative framework? No details have been released on this matter yet. In recent months, Activision had explained that it did not want to create an adaptation simply because the brand is popular: the idea is to build a film that can also function as a standalone work.
