Avalanche Closes its Liverpool Studio
Layoffs also in Sweden

Avalanche Studios, the independent Swedish software house primarily known for the Just Cause series and also for a surprisingly decent Mad Max, had recently disappeared somewhat from the radar: officially, its Liverpool studio had been working on Contraband for Microsoft since 2021, but this summer the project was suspended.
This suspension evidently led to cancellation, leaving the parent company with no choice but to propose the closure of the English studio and the layoff of all personnel: this is according to the statement published on the official website. The measure will also impact the studios in its home country, located in Stockholm and Malmö, as the company – a private entity – reorganizes its forces and future projects.
The statement mentions "open public consultations in compliance with UK regulations," which likely means that before completely shutting down operations, the company might consider proposals for the studio's acquisition or the possibility for it to become independent, but it certainly has no intention of keeping it on its payroll...
