Now Marvel invites viewers to rewatch the film in anticipation of Avengers: Doomsday, presenting that conclusion as the origin of a new story. Avengers: Endgame Encore thus reopens a delicate question: how to continue a story without diminishing the value of its ending? In Italy, the re-release will arrive on September 24, 2026 with the title Avengers: Endgame Extra.

Why does Endgame still work in cinemas?

When the heroes reappear through the portals, the scene works because the viewer has felt the weight of their absence. The film focused on defeat, showing how difficult it was for the survivors to move on. Their return thus acquires an emotional power that the sheer number of characters on screen alone would not be enough to create.

On the big screen, the disproportion between Steve Rogers and Thanos's army also stands out. Sharing that moment with other viewers can add value to a viewing without surprises. Knowing how it will end allows for closer observation of how the film builds emotion.

The time travel also allows us to grasp how much the protagonists have changed. When Tony meets his father, the experience of his own fatherhood gives new meaning to the dialogue. Disney confirms a preview of Doomsday and a further sneak peek reserved for IMAX and Infinity Vision screenings. The press release does not specify when this latter content will be shown during the screening.

Infinity Vision is a Disney certification for large-format cinemas. The brand indicates compliance with technical requirements related to image and sound quality. It therefore concerns viewing conditions, while the exclusive content represents an additional incentive. The conclusive battle of Endgame owes part of its strength to the scale of the images: choosing an adequate cinema therefore makes sense regardless of the new minutes.

How it could connect to Avengers: Doomsday

Joe Russo has called Encore a necessary viewing to follow Doomsday, explaining that the added material will connect the two films. This is a significant statement: only upon release will it be possible to evaluate how truly indispensable it is to know those sequences.

One possible link concerns the time travel with which the Avengers retrieve the Stones. Doomsday could question the consequences of that intervention: it would be a way to re-read the victory without erasing it. This remains an interpretive hypothesis, not a confirmed plot.

Then there's Robert Downey Jr., who will play Victor von Doom. His return can cause unease: a new threat will have the face that the public has learned to associate with a savior. The casting, however, does not prove that Doom is an alternate version of Tony Stark.

For whom is the return to cinemas really worth it?

Encore makes sense especially for those who want to experience the film together with other viewers, including those who have only seen it at home. Buying a ticket exclusively to understand the next chapter, however, means relying on a promise yet to be verified.

However, familiarity with the saga also matters. The emotional power of Endgame depends heavily on the relationship with its protagonists, while the story restarts directly from the defeat of Infinity War. Those who start here will inevitably find it harder to feel involved.

The success of the operation will depend on the discretion of the additions: they must allow the viewer time to say goodbye to those characters, without turning every emotion into an announcement of the next episode. Endgame still deserves the cinema for the story it brings to completion. From Doomsday, we can expect it to be able to restart from that loss, respecting its weight.
