The Pines: Psychological Horror Coming to Steam in 2027
A relaxing town in the woods, with something very wrong
Studio Abattoir, the label behind independent Dutch developer Kevin Jochems, announces that its debut work, The Pines, will be released on PC via Steam in 2027. This video game is an open-world psychological horror that tells the story of Edward Walker, a former detective who, to escape stress, decides to spend some time in a quiet, isolated town in the woods, aptly named The Pines.
The Pines, Where Appearances Are Deceiving
However, the more he gets to know the inhabitants, the more Edward realizes that something is amiss: dark secrets lie hidden behind The Pines' idyllic facade. Edward will thus begin to investigate, questioning the locals and gathering clues. The protagonist will have to decide whom to trust in a place where no one is truly who they say they are.
The investigative activity will not go unnoticed, however: one wrong move, one too many questions, and any inhabitant of The Pines could turn into a stalker, chasing Edward through the woods… When things get bad, resorting to violence will be inevitable. The game will offer a fluid combat system, where Edward can use a wide variety of makeshift weapons to overcome enemies.
