After years of denials, aborted attempts, and ideas that never went anywhere, something is truly moving around the return of The Goonies. This time the spark doesn't come from a leak or a vague promise, but directly from one of the original protagonists: Ke Huy Quan.

During the promotional tour for Zootopia 2, the actor revealed that the long-awaited sequel project is not only underway, but already has a second script treatment completed, and it seems that those who have read it are enthusiastic. It is penned by Potsy Ponciroli, hired by Warner back in February, a sign that the studio has finally embarked on a concrete path.

It would be nice to reunite the old team

Quan recounted discovering the renewed interest in the film by speaking directly with Steven Spielberg, who reportedly expressed contagious enthusiasm. Apparently, Chris Columbus is also involved in the development. «This time I feel like it's really going to happen», the actor confided, openly stating his desire to return to playing Data.

The enthusiasm isn't just for him. With the film's 40th anniversary approaching, the idea of a new Goonies adventure seems more relevant than ever.
