Rumors about The Batman 2 are becoming increasingly persistent and outline a surprising direction for the sequel directed by Matt Reeves. At the center of the speculation would not be Harvey Dent, whom many considered a certainty and potentially played by Sebastian Stan, but rather a character who has so far remained in the background: Gilda Dent.

According to voices from The Hot Mic, the story could be loosely inspired by The Long Halloween, but reversing its hierarchies. Gilda would no longer be just the wife of Gotham's district attorney but a key figure in the spiral of violence that engulfs the city, with intimate and disturbing motivations. The boldest hypothesis would be that it is she, and not Harvey, who assumes the role of Two-Face, reprising a twist already seen in the comics but never explored in cinema.

An unprecedented character for a radical twist

A choice that would allow Reeves to keep his promise of an “unprecedented” villain on the big screen, without inventing anything from scratch and remaining faithful to the dark, psychological, and realistic tone of the first film. The cast could be further enriched with an older male character, perhaps linked to Dent's past or Arkham Asylum, while Robert Pattinson, Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell return. Unfortunately, Zoë Kravitz is absent, with the story set a few weeks after the first chapter.

Filming is scheduled for spring, between England and Scotland. The release is set for October 1, 2027. The impression is clear: The Batman 2 doesn't want to be bigger but riskier, and decidedly more uncomfortable.
