Spellcasters Chronicles is Quantic Dream's New MOBA
Radical style change for David Cage's team
Quantic Dream, the software house led by David Cage, is rightly famous for its excellent, always highly branched, unique, and profound interactive adventures: how can we forget Omicron: The Nomad Soul, Fahrenheit, Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human? Although busy developing its first licensed title, Star Wars: Eclipse, the team has evidently found the time (and funds) to dive headfirst into a genre totally alien to them, announcing Spellcasters Chronicles.
Spellcasters Chronicles presents itself with the typical basic structure of a 3v3 MOBA: two teams of players collaborate to conquer enemy bases on a three-lane map, guiding their troops of minions to victory and directly controlling a hero.
What is the innovative feature that, on paper, could allow Spellcasters Chronicles to stand out from the mass of MOBAs currently on the market? Very simple: the characters controlled by players are all spellcasters of some kind, capable of flying above the battlefield and summoning gigantic creatures to assist the minions.
With a system for managing one's army based on a true "deck" of units, thus with mechanics somehow inherited from card games, a truly vast level of customization for one's spellcaster is also anticipated.
The game, for which only a teaser-trailer and some screenshots have been released, finally shows a graphic style that is also totally distant from the hyper-realistic style of previous Quantic Dream titles: we are in the realm of Fantasy with exaggerated models and pastel/pantone colors, as we have come to appreciate starting from titles like World of Warcraft, through the two Overwatch, and up to Marvel Rivals.
Spellcaster Chronicles is currently announced only for PC and is collecting registrations for an upcoming Closed Beta phase: interested parties can rush to the Steam page of the game and sign up. For more information, there is the Official Website.
