The past never stays silent in Solvent, a found footage body horror film directed by Austrian Johannes Grenzfurthner. The film stars Jon Gries (The White Lotus, The Monster Squad) and will be available on VOD starting in the USA on demand from October 10 via Film Movement.

The story follows an American expatriate who joins a group of experts tasked with exploring an abandoned farm in Austria, searching for hidden Nazi documents. What they find in the dark cellars of the house is not just a fragment of history: it's an ancient and insatiable evil, determined to devour them along with everything they hold dear.

Between Federico Zampaglione's Shadow and James Herbert's The Relic?

Written by Grenzfurthner alongside Benjamin Roberts, Solvent blends visceral nightmare and historical reflection. “The film delves into the unsettling shadows of memory, where the sins of the past resurface in surreal and unexpected ways,” explains the director. “At its core is the true horror of history, woven into a narrative that aims to disturb yet also entertain, exploring guilt, memory, and the difficult confrontation with our darkest secrets.”

The cast includes Aleksandra Cwen (Hagazussa), Grenzfurthner himself, Roland Grtzer, Jasmin Hagendorfer, Ronald von den Sternen, Peter Plos, Galen Howard (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), and Sky Elobar (The Greasy Strangler). We're crossing our fingers hoping the film will soon be available here too, at least with subtitles.
