Almost forty years after the release of Stuart Gordon's film, Herbert West is ready to return to the big screen with a new adaptation inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's famous short story. Herbert West: ReAnimator, a reinterpretation of the celebrated tale that will bring the controversial scientist determined to conquer death back to the screen, is currently in development.

Michael Grossman will direct, while Joseph Morgan will play Herbert West. Alongside him, Katie Cassidy, best known for her role as Laurel Lance in the series Arrow, will portray Dr. Kate Locke. Plot details remain confidential, but the intention is to transport the protagonist's experiments into a contemporary setting, while maintaining his obsession with reanimating corpses.

Between Fidelity to the Original and New Ideas

Re-Animator: The Cult Horror Film Gets a Reboot

Released in 1985, Re-Animator became a cult classic thanks to its irreverent approach, capable of transforming the most extreme gore into a deliberately over-the-top spectacle. Despite taking several liberties with Lovecraft's work, the film quickly achieved cult status and spawned two sequels.

The new project will inevitably have to contend with that legacy. The challenge will not only be to update the story, but above all, to recapture the irreverent spirit and the balance between horror and irony that made the original, still beloved today, so memorable. We hope for at least a cameo from the talented Jeffrey Combs, the iconic face of Gordon and Yuzna's films.
