Saints Row is a series that has had a very peculiar trajectory: born as an obvious parody of Grand Theft Auto, it immediately achieved great public and critical success, especially for its grotesque exaggeration of many elements, first and foremost erotic fetishes. The latest installments, however, somehow missed the mark, and eventually developer Volition closed its doors.

The IP is theoretically still alive: the rights are firmly in the hands of Embracer Group, which acquired them at the time. In fact, it's quite unlikely that we'll see a new Saints Row on shelves anytime soon, or even ever...
This is stated by Chris Stockman himself, who was the Creative Director of the Volition series and is, in short, its "father": Stockman recently responded to a specific question from a fan, stating that the brand is almost certainly dead.

"Honestly, I think the franchise, unfortunately, is defunct - Stockman writes - I have a feeling Embracer has no capacity to do anything with it. I hope things are different. I did my best to propose a path forward but they ghosted me."

The "path forward" concerned the possibility of creating a prequel chapter for the saga, set in the 70s: apparently, Embracer had initially shown interest in the project, but subsequently ceased even responding to Stockman's attempts at contact.

Of Saints Row, we are left with a Review of the remake of the first chapter which, despite its qualities, failed to convince the public. Yet, when it was released on PlayStation Plus, the number of players multiplied...
