The long wait for Resident Evil Requiem is finally coming to an end: the new chapter in the saga that established the concept of survival horror in the collective imagination will be released on Friday, February 27, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam). The new video in the Creator's Voice series is dedicated to Capcom's work, in which director Koshi Nakanishi reveals some interesting behind-the-scenes details.

Survival Horror and... Zelda?

Nakanishi doesn't hide being a fan of The Legend of Zelda, particularly one of the saga's most maligned chapters, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. Imagine, a monster from Resident Evil Revelations is inspired by an enemy from Zelda II! The director reflects on horror games in general, describing the sensations they evoke and the recurring sense of discovery.

This sense of discovery also characterizes the Resident Evil series and emerges in relation to the common thread that unites all chapters. Despite the shared background, these titles can also be enjoyed individually, and the same will be true for Requiem: you can tackle it even if you've never played a Resident Evil before. Nakanishi then goes on to talk about the two protagonists: the veteran Leon Kennedy and the inexperienced Grace Ashcroft.

The Two Main Themes of RE Requiem

Starting from these two characters, the two main themes of the game develop: on one hand, there's Leon's return to Raccoon City, after the zombie apocalypse that struck the city, an event that certainly won't leave him indifferent. On the other hand, there's Grace's investigation into her mother's mysterious murder. The young FBI consultant will uncover some secrets about her past.

The New Zombies of RE Requiem

Grace has never seen a zombie: when it happens, players will witness her reaction. For the users themselves, it will also be a kind of first time, because in Resident Evil Requiem the undead will be different from what we were used to. Not only will there be variants with a particularly abominable appearance, but many will try to continue the activities they performed when alive. For example, zombie doctors in a hospital will be busy operating on patients. Why do they do it? We'll find out by playing.
