Resident Evil Can Continue: Cregger Already Has Ideas
His film will not be a direct adaptation of a single chapter of the saga

Resident Evil 2026 has yet to face public judgment, but in Zach Cregger's mind, the story could already have an evolution. The director admitted to having thought about possible future developments, while carefully avoiding talking about a sequel as something already decided.
“I can’t help but think of other places I could take this story. I have ideas, but the movie isn’t out yet. Let’s see what happens,” he explained, as reported by The Playlist.
The video game also influences the film's rules
Cregger, however, seems to have clearer ideas about another aspect: the relationship with video games. His film will not be a direct adaptation of a chapter of the saga, but it draws inspiration mainly from Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. The influence is not only about atmosphere and fear; resource management will also have a precise weight. “You’ll know how many bullets he has in his gun. You’ll care when he wastes one,” the director explained.
There is also a second mechanic taken from video games that Cregger preferred not to reveal before the release. There could therefore be an additional element capable of transforming the cinematic experience into something closer to what is experienced holding the controller.
