Paramount in Talks to Acquire Warner Bros. Discovery

Hollywood could be facing the most sensational merger in decades. According to The Wall Street Journal, Paramount, freshly strengthened by its union with Skydance, is reportedly preparing a multi-billion dollar offer, largely in cash, to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery, including its flagship DC Studios division.

The news immediately stirred the markets: Warner Bros. shares rose by 30%, and Paramount's by 7%, a sign that investors see the move as a potential strategic coup. The operation would come just weeks after David Ellison's 8.4 billion dollar acquisition of Paramount Global, and would represent a huge leap for the company's new leader.

An entertainment giant risks disappearing 

The goal is clear: to make Paramount+ competitive in the streaming war against giants like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video. With Warner Bros. under the same roof, Paramount would acquire a legendary catalog that includes Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, The Matrix, and the entire DC universe, alongside its own sagas like Transformers.

However, many unknowns remain: how will the acquisition be financed, and what impact will it have on creativity? Warner's CEO, David Zaslav, meanwhile continues to lead a company at the center of controversy and transformation, but if the merger materializes, Hollywood's calendar and future plans could change radically. Obviously, we are talking about the theatrical world, given that the Italian Home Video business unit of Warner has been sold to a Spanish company.
