The magic of The Lord of the Rings will return to cinemas with The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a new chapter that Warner Bros. has set for December 2027. Directed by Andy Serkis, the historical interpreter of the Tolkienian creature, the film promises a dark tone and a deep rooting in the mythology of the great fantasy writer.

Ian McKellen's return as Gandalf has been confirmed, Elijah Wood as Frodo, and the return of Aragorn is not ruled out, but inevitably the spotlight has turned to Orlando Bloom, for many the iconic Legolas.

Hard to Imagine Another Face

Orlando Bloom and the Return of Legolas – The Actor Speaks

Interviewed on the Today Show, the British actor surprised fans: “I haven’t heard anything at all. I don’t know. I know the story focuses on Gollum, so anything is possible.” While not having received official proposals, Bloom left the door open, reiterating a firm point: “I’d hate to see someone else play Legolas. What are they going to do? Put someone else in his place?”

For millions of fans, Orlando Bloom is the only Legolas. His portrayal made the Elven prince of Mirkwood immortal, a symbol of loyalty, heroism, and friendship beyond differences. From a narrative perspective, his return would not be impossible: in Tolkien's texts, Gollum is imprisoned precisely in the realm of Thranduil, Legolas's father, and from there arises the connection with the Council of Elrond. A cameo, therefore, could perfectly link the new work to the original trilogy. Now it remains to be seen whether Warner and Serkis will decide to bring the saga's most beloved elf back to the screen.
