Octopath Traveler I and II: Release Date on Switch 2
The series that pioneered HD-2D returns to Nintendo consoles
In July 2018, Octopath Traveler was released as a timed exclusive on Nintendo Switch. It is a turn-based JRPG where eight stories of as many characters intertwine, but its peculiarity is another: it was the first game to propose HD-2D, the peculiar graphic style that combines three-dimensional environments with characters composed of 2D sprites, a design model that Square Enix has re-proposed in various subsequent projects.
When Octopath Traveler comes out on Switch 2
The Japanese company has announced a new edition of the game and its sequel, coming to Nintendo Switch 2: compared to the Switch 1 version, resolution and frame rate will be improved. The release date for Octopath Traveler and Octopath Traveler II on the new platform is set for October 1, 2026. Pre-orders are open: it is possible to purchase the two titles separately (in digital or physical format), or together in a bundle (in digital format only).
