Lanterns Divides DC Fans Amidst Online Doubts and Controversy
High expectations and unenthusiastic feedback for the realistic, almost investigative tone

The promotional debut of Lanterns, a new series from DC Studios, is not going as hoped. After a launch marred by communication errors – anticipated teasers, recycled clips, and an accidental release of the full trailer – the project is now at the center of an increasingly heated debate.
The perplexities concern not only the marketing strategy but also the very identity of the series. The first material shown surprised with its realistic and almost investigative tone, distant from the typical cosmic imagery of the Green Lanterns. A choice that, while aiming for a broader audience, has left many long-time fans cold.
There still seems to be room for improvement
Complicating the situation were also significant criticisms, such as those from writer Grant Morrison, which further fueled the discussion about the project's creative direction. At the heart of the problem is the perception that the series is distancing itself from iconic comic book elements, sacrificing color and spectacle in favor of a more "grounded" approach.
With the release scheduled for August on HBO, there is still room to correct course. A new, more representative trailer, capable of showcasing the classic visual aspect and the action related to the power rings, could help to rebalance public perception.
For now, Lanterns remains a project under observation, suspended between authorial ambition and fan expectations.
