Last week, Borderlands 4 finally arrived, as chaotic and boisterous as expected. The new installment in the looter shooter series by Gearbox Software lived up to expectations: we explain it in our review. However, the latest Borderlands title is certainly not without flaws, and there's one in particular that has annoyed several fans: the field of view on console versions is not adjustable and is quite limited, which can cause episodes of motion sickness.

Randy Pitchford's Cryptic Words

The reason for this choice is unknown: perhaps the reduced FOV is necessary to lessen the game's burden on console hardware. Randy Pitchford addressed the issue, but only muddled the situation further. The Gearbox founder suggests that a setting to modify the field of view could compromise "fairness", specifying, however, that he "can't really talk about it yet".

If we have to find meaning in what Pitchford says, then it suggests there might be a hidden reference to a PvP mode, because that would be the only context where everyone needs to be on equal footing.

This would also explain why he can't talk about it, as it would be an unrevealed new feature. However, the matter is more complex than that. On the PC version of Borderlands 4, we rightly find a slider to adjust the FOV as desired: why would that be "fair" there, but not on console? What do you think? Also consider that there is crossplay between console and PC...
