Heroes of the Storm Welcomes Xal'atath, the First Hero in Six Years

The MOBA Heroes of the Storm was launched by Blizzard Entertainment in 2015, and its development continued regularly until 2018, when the American company decided to shift a good portion of its resources to other projects. In 2022, development ceased entirely, and the game was put into maintenance mode; however, this was not the end, but rather the beginning of a new era.

Blizzard tasked a team with restoring the project, making the necessary changes. The modifications took a long time: between 2022 and 2023, developers focused on fixing bugs, while from 2024, for a year and a half, balancing was addressed. In 2025, the tenth anniversary of Heroes of the Storm, a turning point arrived with the release of Gear Head Thrall, the first cosmetic item released in years.

Xal'atath, HotS's New Hero

The next step was taken yesterday with the arrival of Xal'atath, who was officially unveiled during BlizzCon 2026. She is the 91st hero in Heroes of the Storm, the first to be released in six years. Xal'atath is a Ranged Assassin whose peculiarity lies in the manipulation of the void through a summonable object, the Dark Heart. This hero rewards spatial control and foresight, becoming more powerful as the match progresses.

To celebrate the advent of a new hero after so long, Blizzard has prepared a series of dedicated Drops, redeemable by tuning in on Twitch until 08:59 AM on October 6th. Here are the rewards:
