Far Cry will become a television series produced by FX, with a creative team that promises sparks. At the helm is Noah Hawley, author of visionary productions such as Fargo, Legion, and the recent Alien: Earth. Alongside him is Rob McElhenney, creator and star of the long-running It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. Perhaps an unlikely pair, but also a potentially explosive combination.

The series will be linked to an anthology production, just like the video games that inspire it: each season will tell a different story, with new characters and unprecedented scenarios. An ideal format for a franchise that has always made madness, ironic violence, and distorted morality its most recognizable traits. Hawley himself emphasized how much this narrative freedom fascinates him, comparing it to the structure of Fargo.

McElhenney will not be limited to behind the scenes: he will also appear on screen, bringing with him his surreal and improvised humor, perfect for a universe like that of Far Cry. According to statements, Ubisoft has given the two authors full creative autonomy, while FX is expected to deliver its usual high quality standards.

The series will arrive on Hulu in the United States and on Disney+ in the rest of the world, following the distribution model of Alien: Earth. Furthermore, Hawley is tied to a new multi-year deal with Disney Entertainment Television, and McElhenney is in the midst of his most prolific season.
