Marvel Studios has unveiled new concept art for the film Fantastic Four: First Steps, showcasing alternative versions of the beloved robot H.E.R.B.I.E.

The images, signed by artist Joe Studzinski, reveal that Reed Richards' friendly assistant could have had a completely different look: between mechanics, rough lines, and an almost human gaze.

Director Matt Shakman has called H.E.R.B.I.E. "as important and alive as any other cast member," and in the film – which grossed over 500 million dollars globally – the robot has become a true mascot. The early versions of the character were inspired by a 1960s retro-futuristic design, perfectly consistent with the film's aesthetic, set in an alternative New York suspended between past and future.

According to Shakman, H.E.R.B.I.E. represents "Reed's right hand in the lab, ready to assist him in any experiment," embodying the ironic and affectionate tone of the film. Fantastic Four: First Steps thus marks a new chapter in the MCU, capable of blending nostalgia, innovation, and heart… even H.E.R.B.I.E.'s mechanical one.
