The second season of Fallout seems to have lost some of the momentum that made the series an immediate phenomenon on Prime Video. After the overwhelming debut of the first season, released all at once and capable of dominating online conversation for weeks, the return to weekly episodes is yielding colder results than expected.

According to Nielsen data reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the debut of Season 2 totaled 794 million minutes viewed, a number significantly lower than the 2.9 billion minutes recorded by the first season. This figure is even more impactful considering that over half of that time relates to only the first episode of the new season, while the rest also includes views of the previous season.

Hoping for the Final Marathon

Unlike other occasions, no triumphant press releases about the results have been issued, a silence that has not gone unnoticed. Deadline speaks of a series that has not collapsed, but is not growing either, also due to fierce competition: the finale of Stranger Things monopolized attention with over 2.3 billion minutes viewed.

One hypothesis remains open: many viewers might be waiting for the complete availability of episodes for a final binge-watch. From a creative standpoint, Fallout does not seem to have lost its identity or ambition, with the cast led by Walton Goggins, Ella Purnell, and Jonathan Nolan still at the helm. The problem, at least for now, seems to be more strategic than narrative.
