DC Studios has initiated the development of a new film dedicated to John Constantine, but the project will not be a sequel to the 2005 film starring Keanu Reeves. Francis Galluppi, director of The Last Stop in Yuma County, will be in charge of the screenplay, while initial rumors indicate a complete reboot of the character.

The news revolutionizes the prospects for the sequel on which Reeves and Francis Lawrence had been working for some time. The two had expressed their intention to create an R-rated chapter, without the limitations encountered during the production of the first film. The Studio's new direction seems to have definitively shelved that possibility.

It remains to be seen what place Constantine will have in the cinematic project led by James Gunn and Peter Safran. It is not yet clear whether the film will enter the main continuity or be destined for the Elseworlds line. Meanwhile, Swamp Thing is also progressing, entrusted to James Mangold. Safran confirmed that the screenplay is in the works, specifying that the director's availability will influence production planning.

A potential meeting between the two characters could open new perspectives for the supernatural side of DC, which has been less explored on the big screen until now.
