Shark cinema continues to reinvent itself, and Chum seems to be betting everything on tension, cruelty, and chaos. The first trailer for the horror thriller set in Malta indeed shows a tranquil wedding ceremony quickly transforming into a desperate fight for survival.

At the heart of the story is a newlywed couple who organize a private boat party with friends and family. What should be a romantic trip, however, takes a terrifying turn when the group falls into the hands of an unstable fisherman, obsessed with catching a massive great white shark.

Between Thirsty Sharks and Open Sea Madness

The film isn't limited to the classic aquatic survival: the real danger seems to be the man in command of the boat, willing to use the guests as live bait just to attract the predator. The trailer hints at submerged cages, internal betrayals, and particularly violent attacks, with a deliberately over-the-top tone and atmospheres not so far from Dangerous Animals.

Leading the cast is Alice Eve, previously seen in Star Trek Into Darkness, here engaged in a much more physical and desperate role. The US release of Chum is scheduled for June 5, 2026, in selected theaters and digital platforms; for us, a digital release is more likely for now.
