Netflix has released the first teaser for Below, a horror miniseries starring Josh Hartnett in the lead role. Set on the coasts of Newfoundland, the series tells the story of a mysterious marine threat destined to disrupt the lives of a small fishing community.
Hartnett is Calvin Penney, a seaman who has known those waters forever but finds himself facing something inexplicable. The production chooses not to reveal the face of the threat, limiting itself to showing its consequences.
A horror story set on the coasts of Newfoundland
Hartnett leads a cast that includes Mackenzie Davis, Ruby Stokes, Charlie Heaton, and Natasha Henstridge. The series is created by Jesse McKeown (The Umbrella Academy, The Sinner), who chose Newfoundland as the setting for the story, leveraging its isolation and its inhabitants' constant relationship with the ocean.
The teaser alternates glimpses of the village with moments of palpable tension without revealing the origin of what lies beneath the surface. The focus thus remains on the characters and the consequences of the grim events affecting the community. Below will arrive on Netflix on October 8 with a season of six episodes.
